Poetry Kitchen: Waiting for Opportunity

Waiting for Opportunity

Opportunity knocks just once, he hears
So he writes letters but never calls,
He never leaves his place at all.
Chained to his house by his fears,
The door always in range of his ears.
He's eager to answer that mysterious call
While a cramped routine makes him a thrall.
Forever diligent, he'll wait years.

His neighbor, the fool, is often away
Putting up wires and setting up snares
And yet he seems free of cares,
Catching his business as it strays.
Opportunity knocks just once, they say,
But the hunter finds it every day.

(Both cubs are asleep at the same time, so I finished this one that had been half-done to post!)
