Learning..

Today, I was watching the cub play with some dry cereal that he wasn't interested ineating. He was pouring it from one cup-shaped lego-like block into his bowl, then into another block, then back and forth. Sometimes, he used his spoon to help guide the cereal.
He's learned to pick up the cereal that spills. That we had to insist upon, and show him over and over. Now he does it on his own. But nobody taught him to use a spoon to help guide the falling cereal. I do things like that when cooking, which he likes to watch, and I think that's where he got the idea.
Because he says so few words, it's easy to forget how much he knows and understands. I have spoken of something without thinking about his presence in the room, only to look down and see that he'd fetched the item for me, just like that. He's a scarily good listener.
What else does he learn, just from listening and watching? What is he soaking up, all while I'm busy cooking or reading or talking with friends?
