The werecub is spending more time awake, now that he can see more. He wants to look at everything (and not sleep). So, I spend a fair amount of time trying to guess what he's looking at now.

Ceiling fans seem to fascinate him, for some reason, even if they're not moving. He doesn't yet have the depth perception to realize just how far away they are, so sometimes he'll swipe at them with an arm.

We like to play in front of the mirror on the dresser we use as a changing table. [livejournal.com profile] anher or I will hold the werecub under his arms so that he can balance on his own feet and stomp around. He's a long way yet from walking on his own, but he really enjoys being able to stand a little higher. I noticed him looking at one point in the mirror and couldn't figure it out, until I saw that there's a bubble in the glass. He'd been looking at the bubble, not the reflections! Well, score one for the werecub. I'd never noticed.

But the one that got to me was figuring out why he was looking in the corner. We have some shelves there with teddy bears, so I thought it might be one of those. During a break from playing, I brought him each one to look at more closely, and he just seemed bored and looked away.

Not the bears.

So, I reached up and took down the picture behind the bears and held it up for him. He wiggled and smiled and stared right at it. The picture?

I should have known he was looking at the picture of the fairy. Someday, the werecub will be interested in animals. He doesn't pay attention to our cats as they walk around. But he really likes people.

Hee! :)

The ceiling fan thing seems universal.

Our ten month old still takes an interest in ceiling fans, especially when they've recently been switched on or off and thus are changing speed. They were mesmerizing when he was about two-three months old. He used to love light fixtures, too, but seems to be over that by now.
