Walking in the rain... and stuff

On Sunday,
anher and I went to Mount Trashmore and walked the circuit. And it didn't seem like far enough, so we hiked up the hill, down the hill, and walked the circuit again.
The regular walks are definitely helping me get into shape. On the other hand, going up that hill hurt a lot. The disadvantage to walking around here is that it's mostly flat and all at sea level. "In shape" for walks around here is still kinda out of shape for walks in, say, the hills of southern Indiana and way out of conditioning for someplace like the mountains of New Mexico.
It's been raining a lot. It was sprinkling on Sunday, but we didn't bother with raingear. We walked again today, and it was raining, so we donned rain jackets and hats and endured wet feet. Our usual walk around the neighborhood is definitely over a mile, but I haven't done anything sensible like wear a pedometer yet to find out just how long it is.
On nice days, there are some people who will be outside and recognize us as we walk by. There's a couple of boys who play in the parking lot of an apartment complex. They like nerf guns. There's a Hindu family - one of them even has the little dot on her forehead! She takes short walks close to home, so sometimes we see her on the porch, and sometimes we pass her on the sidewalk. The family has an older couple, a couple that seems about our age, and a little kid, but I don't know if they all live there or if the younger couple and kid are just visiting sometimes.
The new mourning dove family (or old, returning mourning doves?) is complete with two fledglings, now. Coming home and peering at the nest is a favorite moment these days. When it's cold and rainy out, the parent sits on top of the two fledglings, with varying degrees of fluffy small bird sticking out underneath. It all looks like far too much bird to fit on that little nest.
Made chicken noodle soup and banana bread this weekend. We have leftovers to last a while. Planning on making some black bean quesadillas sometime this week, too.
