Today, I am sending out invitations for a feast of poetry! I have volunteered to cook one dish for each of you. All you have to do is ask.

The rules:
1) Give me ingredients! Either three words for a theme, or a link to an image or video. Please keep words and links PG13.
2) Give me a recipe! Tell me what kind of poem you want. It can be as simple as a rhyming couplet, or as complicated as a sonnet.
3) One per person. Spread the word if you know somebody who would like their own creation!
4) Share! You can reprint or link to the poem, simply give me credit and link to my journal, please.

You can request a sonnet for your favorite lolcat, or a haiku for a sunset. Silly or serious. I promise to do my best.

I'm opening requests now, before I go to work. I won't start making poetry until tonight, when I get home. Please be patient- good food takes time.

Edit: And requests are closed! Thank you for those who commented. I'll be working on your poems in order.

No one's asked? :O

May I have a poem about the sphinx I drew yesterday? http://ninjahijinx.com/wp-gallery/ekwara/sphinxetc.jpg I am not sure what kind of poem to ask for, though.

For you, a serving in free verse-

The Sphinx's Invocation

O giver of life above the stars,
O beacon whose warmth soothes and blesses,
I kneel to thee,
I pledge to thee,
My body to your hot caresses.

O watchful eye aloft in heaven,
Whose smiles alone my grief redresses,
Keep back the cold,
And make me bold;
Grant me the power your light possesses.

In your glory and your might,
I need not fear the blackest blight.

Clockwork claws and mirror scales
Delight His Highness.

Something that rhymes about magical or space-faring manta rays! Or sting rays. Or spotted rays...

Hmm. I wonder if those would all be different races or classes or something. Mage spotted rays, priest sting rays, warrior manta rays....

I tried to write something serious and mystical, and it wasn't working. So instead of sweetbread, you get Jell-O!

The Visitor

While swimming in the sea one day,
I chanced upon a spotted ray.
He swam across the sandy bottom
Like a leaf adrift in Autumn.

"Hello," I said, "And how do you fare?"
He gazed at me with piercing stare.
"I've been by Venus just last night,
And sailed here on the morning light.

"Tomorrow I'll fly in Jupiter's ocean
To meet my wife." Then with swift motion,
He left me wondering by the bar,
His speckled back stained with stars.

You're right. This would be awesome with illustration, especially as a splash showing the different environments described.

Silly would be awesome, and any form you please!

I need to practice my Tanka!

Adventurous boys,
Father's best flail, hunting rats
Into the basement.
A shrine amid the wreckage;
Even rats have gods they worship.

A memorial for Cuthbert? Something epigrammatic, perhaps?

No mother to tend him, but You were there.
You entrusted him into our care.
You granted us time, some years, some hours.
Though always Yours, he was, briefly, ours.

Invaders

They tear the ground as green heads rise.
Their wings unfurl from private lairs.
They're washed by rain, and rainbow smiles
Shine on their hoards, of gold so fair.
Gold fades to white as the children are laid.
They bob and sway to the wind's caress.
More and more grow, until that day
They all take flight, new lands to possess.

Though they are by many abhorred
I love these dragons, and their hoards.

How about "observation serves inspiration?" Or "science of deduction?"

(Yes, I'm a Sherlock Holmes fan. So sue me. ;)

Free verse would be fine! Thank you!

Speaking of Sherlock Holmes...

A rather rich epigramm-

As I examine facts for evaluation,
I find I know each motivation.
This point deserves elucidation,
Observation serves inspiration.

Yes! This certainly reads like something Holmes might have written. :D

Well done. Thank you!

Honey, regret, sandalwood. A sestina, maybe, or if that form's a PITA, what you will.

I made several attempts at a sestina, but I just couldn't get the leaven to rise. I hope that you enjoy your not-quite sonnet.

Luxuries

Bread is sweet when drizzled with honey
And sandalwood incense lends to the air
A delicious savor, perfumed with comfort.
Delightfully soft is the fur of a coney,
Like so many luxuries that I could wear.
Water over skin is a silken shirt.
I could bathe in warmth all day when it's sunny,
Drink honeysuckle and lavender from the air
Like wine, and thunderstorms for dessert.
Not all indulgences are purchased with money.
Some, like regret, are paid for with care
Diligently given to loss and hurt.
What price would you pay, what ransom give?
Your day to the past, or to the present, and live?

I can certainly try!

Water back and forth,
A traveler held helpless
Between our two tides.
The voyager flies home with
The rush of joy from our hearts!
