The last part of Geocities closing down. No more free accounts, anymore.

The heck of it is, I can't just ftp the files; not on a free account. It seems like such a bother to upgrade to a paid account for 2 months just to grab it all, but I don't want to lose the work I have in that thing.

*gnar*

I've had this account with Geocities and then Yahoo! since 1997. I've had so many free upgrades over the years I've lost count, just for sticking with them as long as I have.

These days, my website is mostly a place to keep my resume, but it still has some interesting stuff tucked away about Scouting and other things.

Two things:

(1) Use wget or a similar program to "mirror" the website. No need to FTP, no need to pay. If you need a hand, just ask.

(2) My cat is currently sitting on my web server. Want space?

wget is a command-line tool (although there are GUI front-ends) for doing exactly what you want - downloading webpages. It also has the ability to recursively follow all links in a webpage and download those... and continue to follow links until it has the whole thing. There are other programs which can do this as well.

What's the URL of your old webpage?

I haven't overhauled my old page in, gosh, ages. I should still go through and save all the unused image files.

You should really check your e-mail. ;)

I have. Unless you've magically managed to snap up the unlinked and embedded things, I'll still have to go get those, too. :)

Embedded, yes. Unlinked, no, but it's easy enough if you know the base URL. You can do that yourself.
