As opposed to the Left Way, of course.

Post title: Offensive, of course. I guess they'll be calling him Loophole for the rest of the duration; I'd better Just Get Used To It.

Point one: how petty, on both sides. To address the "missing link": The White House website is run on an ancient server, with a limited process of media roll-out; and the entire means of Executive contact with the internet is being redesigned, including daily blog posts along with press briefings. Just because it's not currently linked on a website currently being revamped doesn't mean it's gone missing forever. But keep asking for it if you miss it, certainly.

Point two: apparently still in negotiation; and what about someone who carries a cell-phone camera (or something like my less-than-palm-size device)? Ultimately, I believe that independent cameras will be allowed in, because they will be present at every public appearance anyway.

Point three: Start writing letters.

Point four: has no substance. Point me to actual "executive orders", not staff rules and requests. As for the rest?

Fortunately for those of us who don't always agree with the incoming administration, we've spent the last eight years being told the highest duty of any American (contra our new President) is not unity, but the loud and vociferous expression of patriotic dissent.

... except for, you know, the President's men, referring here to staff and Cabinet meetings where Bush spoke and everyone else listened. And the great willingness which Bush and people like this blogger showed for the vast majority of those eight years to call dissenters unpatriotic liberals.

The section I quoted is then followed by rhetoric designed to enrage more than enlighten, including links to right-wing bloggers with more anger-encouraging rhetoric of their own.

The article ends well, at least. It finally got to the point introduced in its topic, and covered that perfectly.

Bush never did this. Ever. Nor did any of his administration's officials and spokesmen, that I'm aware of.

Some bloggers and pundits called the lefties unpatriotic, but not because of their dissent. More often, the lefties complained -- preemptively -- that they were being accused of being unpatriotic when they weren't. I suppose this inoculated them from being called unpatriotic when some of their compatriots went beyond dissent and did actual deeds (like publishing war plans and other sensitive information) which could legitimately be called unpatriotic (not to mention, illegal).

Found what I was looking for while reviewing my journal last night and today.

Bush Executive Order of July 17 2007, titled "Blocking Property of Certain Persons Who Threaten Stabilization Efforts in Iraq"

Article quote: In substance, under this executive order, opposing the war becomes an illegal act.

So you're right. Bush didn't call dissenters unpatriotic liberals; he called them criminals.

Except it doesn't say that, except in the fevered intrepretation of the axe-grinder who wrote the article. Behind all the legalese this is an order allowing for the "freezing of assets" of people who are engaging in actions here in the USA whose results cross international boundaries. It's fairly common boilerplate.

When Jimmy Carter "froze the assets" of the Iranians during the hostage crisis, he did so by such means. This not only deprived them of resources, but also provided a pool of money from which courts could make awards when the families of the hostages sued the Government of Iran.

Thank you!

I've been looking for a good balance post, and all the ones I could find were ... um, not articulating the valid conservative points properly.

Hmm. It really depends on where you're looking, I guess. My two regular reads are The Corner on NRO and RightWingNews. The Heritage Foundation is a conservative think tank that outlines a lot of good alternative ideas. So, if you want places where you can find good balance, I'd recommend NRO or The Heritage Foundation.

RightWingNews is probably the most 'wing nut' of any site I read. There's some anger over how conservatives have been treated over the years, but the majority of the bloggers there agree that there's no point turning into something we despise just to 'win'.

Okay, I have bookmarked The Corner and The Heritage Foundation. The latter seems especially tight on elucidating policy and principles -- that's the stuff I want the most.

I approve. Speaking as a liberal: the only way to have "accountability" is to have an opposition HOLDING people accountable. Very few people live up to their rhetoric on their own.

The only way to make Obama become the President I want him to be is to have people pointing out, loudly and publicly, every time that he fails to live up to his rhetoric.
