Sanctity in general seems to be a difficult concept for a lot of people. There are gamers to whom "holy ground" means nothing more than a buff against undead. There are people in the world to whom literally nothing is sacred. Nothing has meaning or worth beyond what other people will give for it. One symbol is fully interchangeable with another.
I think that's one of the few ways in which a person can be really lost in this world. It's one thing to know what holiness is and not have it. It's another to not even recognize it when it's right before you.

2: The depiction was not neutral, but neither was it tainted by excess.
3: In my opinion, most of the commenters are deluded.
