Today's mission from FlyLady was to shine the bathroom sink. Unfortunately, mine is still covered with things.

So, in the interest of finding more space, I went to Wal-Mart and picked up a shower caddy and a new shower curtain. I looked a long time at some of the simple shelving they have in there, but didn't find anything I was willing to buy.

I came home, put up the shower caddy, and it just holds everything that was sitting on the edge of the bathtub. Instead of sighing over not finding a place for the stuff on the sink, I took the opportunity to scrub the now clear parts of the bathtub. Afterwards, I replaced the shower liner and took down the cloth curtain to get washed. It's in the washer right now.

I'm overheated from working in that tight space with hot water, but the tub looks a lot cleaner than it did. I didn't get to the mission for today, but I accomplished something!

And maybe I'll manage some decluttering in the bathroom today so that the next time I need to wash down the sink, I'll be able to do it. 10 or 15 minutes of sorting towels and toiletries would probably help.

Good for you! Keep it up! You are doing better than I am, but with the Home Blessing Hour and the 15 minutes in the Zone of the week every day, everything stays pretty presentable when people drop by. Dishes and DH dropping stuff where ever when he gets home are my biggest problems.

Regarding shelving and the like....check and see if you have a local freecycle list. It's surprising how often stuff like that goes up.

Congrats! I'll bet you feel good about any task (even emergent ones) being completed. Keep up the Fly Lady agenda!

I am curious; you mentioned that there are factors precipitating your seeking emplyment - are there also factors stimulating your initiatives with the Fly Lady program?

Starting Fly Lady is entirely my mom's fault. She's mentioned it before, but looking over the website didn't really get me into the idea. Then, my dad came to visit, helped with some cleaning, and mom sent me FlyLady's book- Sink Reflections.

Now, books I can understand. The website is laid out as a series of tools. It has schedules, essays, techniques, and places to buy things. However, the book was written as a way to explain just what this was all about. Without knowing the whys, the tools and the bits and pieces just didn't make sense to me.

I've always been that way. I've always had to know why something was important to do before I felt okay to go do it.
