Obscene fans at Rutgers draw a penalty flag

Navy was booed and peppered with "You suck!" chants when they stepped on the field for both halves. Toward the end of the second half, Rutgers students in the new bleacher section began to serenade the adjacent section of Navy fans and uniformed Midshipmen.

"F--- you, Navy. F---you, Navy. F--- you, Navy."

When I was at the U of I, I was a big ice hockey fan, and we were pretty vicious to the opposing team. But we left their fans alone. I remember talking to some of them after the game; they asked why we were so nice now. I told them that it was just in good fun, and that if I had time (I didn't; silly homework), I would gladly take them out for a beer.

Insulting players is one thing. Insulting the fans is different. And the Navy is a pretty darn good organization; I've been to the Academy for various events, both in Scouting and when I was a water polo player - it's great. They certainly deserve respect, especially considering what their careers will be once they graduate.

And besides, couldn't they come up with something more original? Really...
