This guy is ridiculous. The effects at play are complex. The real point is, the media shouldn't have made a big deal about 1998 being a "record year" in the first place, since in the grand scheme of evidence for/against global warming it doesn't mean anything. The error Mr. Steyn is talking about at NASA is a minor one, and that the 30's was the "hottest decade" also has little relevance for/against global warming. He's just doing the same thing the liberal media was doing in 98: misrepresenting a minor point as political ammunition.

The fact is, if you trust the scientific community to progress and figure things out and generally get more accurate as time progresses, all signs point to carbon emissions probably having a detrimental effect on climate. It isn't the *only* effect, nor is it the most important effect, nor would controlling emissions mean the climate would never change to our harm.

Either way, if you want a serious evaluation of this issue you need to go to someone with a scientific background. Neither Mr. Steyn nor Al Gore should be taken at their word, and both should be expected to misuse evidence (whether by accident or on purpose). But when every major scientific community except for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, you need to seriously examine the evidence before you disagree.
