I remembered at 4:30 that the kitties had a vet visit at 5:00 pm today.

Fortunately, our vet is about ten minutes' drive away.

Both kitties got their distemper shots. Perci was due for his rabies. And then the vet checked his ears. Percivale hates when anybody messes with his ears. Always has.

Turns out, his ears are infected! So, now we get to mess with his ears twice a day for a while. The medication not only bugs him severely, it can also cause him to drool. He's already the drooliest kitty I know. It takes two people to medicate his ears, so I'll have to get up early to help with the morning dosage for a while.

Mordred complained all the way there, then did his barnacle impression on [livejournal.com profile] anher's lap, then complained all the way home. He's not much of a travel cat. Perci, after the ear-messing, temporarily occupied the carrier and looked resentful through the open part at us. We had to pry him out one paw at a time in order to get home.

(Explanation: we currently only have one cat-sized carrier. Mordred is not happy with being picked up and carried places, and panics in the car. So, Percivale gets put on a harness and leash, and Mordred is placed in the carrier. Once we get at the vet, however, Mordred clings to any available human, and Perci just wants to hide in his hidey-place-thing.)

We're home now, and both of them are alternately hiding and checking on us. It'll be feeding time soon. That'll cheer 'em up.

Poor kitties. What kind of infection does Perci have?

I haven't heard of a cat getting yeast infections. Do you know where he could have picked it up?

Who knows? It's a first to me, too. However, a cat's ear is a dark place that can often be damp, and wild yeast do drift around naturally.
