I've seen it over and over. When I was in Jr High, I hated the Dallas Cowboys. Not only did all their players seem to be constantly in trouble with the law, but everybody I knew who was a fan was a jerk. I decided I would never be a Dallas fan.

Ron Paul has a platform that appeals to almost nobody, but he could have been merely a forgettable candidate if not for his supporters. They spammed internet polls and started flame wars. In short, they were rude and obnoxious at every opportunity, managing to stand out even on the generally rude internet. Even if you like Ron Paul's policies, why would you want to be associated with his other supporters?

And, it seems that every person who's willing to drag politics into a leisure activity, who automatically assumes that every person in the immediate area is interested and agrees with them, happens to be a liberal. The combination of arrogance and obnoxiousness is such that, even if I agreed with the political positions of these people, I don't want to be associated with them. I don't want to be part of a group that continually makes fun of a person because it's cool. I don't want to be part of a group that decides that any place is the right place to suddenly start a political scrap, for no reason than that you feel like complaining, and don't feel like taking it somewhere more appropriate.

And if you're on the computer, it's not like it's hard to alt-tab to a different window, open up a blog, and do your complaining there.

Ron Paul may be a lot of things, but he's not on the left.

I realize it can be read that way, but I wasn't trying to imply that he is. He does, however, have a problem in how a large group of his supporters act. Just like the Cowboys did, and the left in general seems to.

I will agree that libertarians can be a rowdy and sometimes uncouth bunch.

It's the rabid Truthers and the guys who are cheating in the online polls that have really made Ron Paul's rep stink on the blogs these days.

For some reason, the libertarians that have come out of the woodwork for Ron Paul haven't been the small government, low taxes types, but the flaming conspiracy freaks.

It's sad.

I will tend to be willing to discuss politics with people of a more conservative bend... (being fairly firmly planted in the Democrat angle).

I will not debate with libertarians. Every single one of them I know puts mu teeth on edge.
