Victory over the pantry
Dec. 20th, 2012 10:43 amOn Tuesday, we received a Christmas present we'd bought for ourselves: a locking wardrobe (some assembly required). We assembled it that night, but were too tired to actually do more with it then.
Yesterday, I had a doctor's appointment. Running out and doing that took up all my free time and energy for the day.
So, today, I finally got to sit down and set up the pantry. This house doesn't have one on its own, so we put a locking wardrobe downstairs for it. Unfortunately, it still had contents. So today, I removed everything from the wardrobe downstairs and carted it upstairs to be sorted and put away in the wardrobe upstairs. Then I wiped out the one in the kitchen and started filling it with pantry foods.
The stovetop is now cleared of all the food that had been sitting on it. I found that I have a LOT of baking nuts. Also, my supply of tea is very generous. I love tea and family members have bought me various special varieties as presents over time, but I haven't been drinking it due to pregnancy and nursing. Caffeine, like alcohol, is on my list of things to consume sparingly when nursing, and not at all when pregnant (okay, there's caffeine in chocolate, but that's the only exception). Also, peppermint can cause a drop in supply when nursing, so my favorite peppermint teas have been left alone for some time.
I have a small shelf set aside just for different kinds of chocolate. Cocoa powder, baking chocolate, chocolate chips.. this doesn't include the small bars of dark chocolate I eat every day to help with my blood pressure. Between that and the copious supplies of nuts, it is clear that I must bake cookies soon to use some of these up! Or make brownies. Something.
Anyway, I'm tired now. Time to declare victory over the kitchen for the day and rest upstairs with Pandora playing Christmas music at me. It snowed last night, so I have the blinds open to let in light and the sight of the snow. It's not very deep and will probably melt tomorrow, so I'm savoring it today.
