The big family feast with the in-laws was today, after two days of visiting with various groupings. The cub napped easily but not long ahead of time, and was initially fussy at the farm, to my puzzlement. At one point he brought me my shoes. After I had put them back, it occurred to me that he might want to take a walk. I proposed the idea, even though it was dark, and a few of us went outside and strolled around the lit area. By the time we got back inside, the cub was much settled, more like himself. He sat on my lap and ate a turkey/mashed potato/gravy sandwich I had prepped on a dinner roll, then pie, much calmer than before the outing.

I had known that I was reaching critical introvert status this morning and dedicated some time to quiet reading, but the cub doesn't have the experience to measure his own energy. I wonder if he'd just been around too many people in the past three days and needed a moment to resettle himself. Maybe. After the walk and food, he wrestled his older cousin and played with cars and was much happier. The day ended on a good note, with some sparklers for fun and then a fairly easy bedtime once back at grandma's.

It has been a good visit, but much more tiring to introvert me than visiting with just my parents. The gatherings are now more than 20 in-laws for that side of the family, and that's a lot of social capital.

Trying not to worry too much about moving next week. I think it's sinking in that we're really leaving the house that we've been in for so long..
