After that moment of outrage, might I point you to the following?
The FCC wants to grant itself the power to regulate the internet.
The EPA granted itself the power to regulate carbon dioxide.
The FDA is "reviewing" the effect of sodium in food, and would like "to work with other federal agencies, public health and consumer groups, and the food industry to support the reduction of sodium levels in the food supply".
If industries don't cooperate, they could simply rule sodium as dangerous as carbon dioxide, I suppose.
