Got more stitching done. I am now to the point where I can't put off the dubious instructions anymore. I've read and reread them, and still can't figure it out.

In the hood instructions, it says to gather the neck part, then pin it to the rest and adjust the gather so that the small dots (marked with pins) match the shoulder seams, etc. Then to baste.

Specifics: )

Then it has all the neck facing instructions, with pinning and stitching and turning it to the inside and stitching again. There is no further mention of the hood.

The only intruction after the ones I quoted here is a line that describes how to do all the hems. It says to do the bottom, and the front and hood openings.

I'm terribly confused. Is the hood supposed to be seperate? It is supposed to be attached, but in some way I've missed? I've visited www.simplicity.com and left a message in their 'Customer Service' section, but I don't know if I'll get a response by the time I want to sit down and sew tomorrow. And it'd be nice to finish this thing.

EDIT: Got a response!

The Three Ravens )

I was surprised to find that Peter, Paul, and Mary recorded a version of this song, though they left out the bits about the hawks and the hounds.

I'm not quite sure why I like this song so much. It's a romantic song (in a way), and I've also always liked songs that were vaguely creepy. Like many folk songs, the tune is a simple one, easy to learn and to sing. It really gets to me that most people that perform old folk songs like this want to do something fancy with it- they're really best just sung as they are. At least Peter, Paul, and Mary got that part right.

Got an email from the folks from Simplicity. Apparantly, when you're all done, the neck facing goes on the inside, covering up the raw seam edges around the neck. It's described the way it is because of "view A" which doesn't have a hood. If you do have a hood, you just line up the facing against the seam of the hood and the cloak as a third layer. Stitch, trim, then fold it over the mass of seams and press, then stitch again.

Yay! I have directions!

EDIT: I have to say I'm extremely gratified by the prompt and helpful reply. A big + for Simplicity.
