First, I'm going to link you to this post and its comments by way of explanation. Today, we built the experimental wrap. It would probably be good as a plain old salad, but I can take wraps more easily to work for lunch. :)
Ingredients:
Tortillas
Mustard
Fresh spinach leaves
Bratwurst (already cooked)
Sauerkraut
Sharp cheese (used Vermont Sharp White Cheddar)
Slice bratwurst on a bias to make, oh, about 1/2-1/4 inch slices. Shred the cheese. Rinse sauerkraut and drain.
Start with a tortilla. Criss-cross central area (where the food goes) with mustard. We used plain old French's.
Add about two layers of spinach leaves. I took the stems off, so it was all leafy goodness. Put in two rows of bratwurst slices. Use a fork to add the sauerkraut down the middle. Sprinkle cheese over everything. Roll up and eat. WARNING: sauerkraut may leak juice, even after drained. Eat the first bite or two over a plate.
It was very, very good. After the success with the sauerkraut, I suggested to
anher that it would also work with his pickles that he made. He tried it, and it was also very good, with a fair amount of additional zing to it.
So, for those of you wondering if it's possible to make a salad or wrap with bratwurst, it's not only possible, it's delicious. And pretty healthy, I think.
