No mother to tend him, but You were there.
You entrusted him into our care.
You granted us time, some years, some hours.
Though always Yours, he was, briefly, ours.

Invaders

They tear the ground as green heads rise.
Their wings unfurl from private lairs.
They're washed by rain, and rainbow smiles
Shine on their hoards, of gold so fair.
Gold fades to white as the children are laid.
They bob and sway to the wind's caress.
More and more grow, until that day
They all take flight, new lands to possess.

Though they are by many abhorred
I love these dragons, and their hoards.
