aefenglommung visited this weekend. There was lots of walking and lots of talking and some good food. Mostly, it was just good to spend time with family.
The werecub is a great hiker. On Saturday, while
anher was at class, I took him to First Landing State Park where
aefenglommung was camping, and we hiked their Bald Cypress trail. 1.8 miles, and the only time I had to carry the cub was when he got it in his head to run off in the wrong direction a couple of times. He loves to walk.
We did Yorktown Sunday, and the Cape Henry lighthouse yesterday. There are 191 steps to the top of the lighthouse, and my calves are protesting the work this morning. Unfortunately, the cub wasn't tall enough to go up the lighthouse (there's a ship's ladder near the top, so the minimum height is 42"), so he and I stayed down at the bottom while the men went up, then
aefenglommung stayed down to watch him while
anher and I abused our legs.
Today, I go back to work and
aefenglommung goes home. It was good to see him. We got to talk about having kids and how that changes things, about role-playing and Tolkien and the Barsoomian novels. We talked about politics and worries for the future.
The werecub was short on sleep by the time the weekend is over. I suspect he'll nap extra hard today. I look forward to being closer to the grandparents. I pray it'll be soon.
