Work, work
Jan. 20th, 2010 05:42 pmIt was raining when I left work today, but not very seriously. More like sky kisses than real rain.
I have realized that people who are fairly new to my journal (hi, guys!) might not know what my job even is. So, here's what I do - I work in the Escrow Department for a mortgage servicing company. In other words, I pay other people's property taxes for them.
As a detail-oriented (and slightly neurotic) introvert, this is a very good job for me. There's a lot to keep track of, but I've always been good at organizing data. Time management has been a bigger hurdle for me. Customer Service handles all incoming calls from mortgagors, so the only time I speak to a borrower is if I need some tax information from them (very rare) or as a courtesy after finishing a request. This takes the pressure off, so I'm not doing damage control or selling the company to people. I'm just getting things paid.
The job has been very good for me. Not only is the work a good fit for my skills and attitude, but the environment has been wonderful. The supervisors and managers I have worked with have been more focused on solving problems than blaming people, which allowed me to finally get over my fears of messing up. And most of the people I work with are eager to do the best job they can, instead of just punching a clock. It's a very healthy place to work because of that. I think I've grown up more over the time I've worked this job than I have for many years, and got back some needed confidence.
So, if you have questions about property taxes or how escrow is handled, feel free to ask. I don't mind. I won't go into details about the company I work for or our clients, of course, but I do enjoy my work, and don't mind talking about it.
