Aug. 7th, 2006 10:03 pmWe finished up enough cleaning to move the futon to the front room and the mint chairs (temporarily, we say) into the guest room, but haven't yet set up the sewing desk.
anher and I took a trip to the fabric store today and finally settled on two gabardine swatches- forest green and plain black. Enough to make one tabard out of each. However, we couldn't find the trim, so we'll have to check Wal-Mart again to see if they have anything appropriate and might have to venture farther out if there's nothing suitable there.
I had forgotten how frustrating it is to try to find the right color and the right fabric. It's something I've only done a couple of times before, and both times I had
aefenglommung or
collinsmom along. Brian and I wandered around kind of lost for a while before discovering the correct fabric when I checked a bolt out of boredom. A helpful employee told us that that entire row was all gabardine as well. Must've gone past it three or four times without realizing it. We would have used wool, but all the wool was in 'suit' colors- weird shades of grey, off-white, and brown (and one female power-suit purple).
However, for once I had no problems matching thread color! Anybody who's sewn anything knows that little bit of pain and agony. It's extremely hard to find a perfect match, but for once I had a shade of cloth that was just right. At least black matches black easily.
So, we might sit down and figure out the desk once
anher gets back from work, or we might take the rest of the night off and do some other things. Depends on when exactly he gets back and how much energy we both have then.
The house is both much cleaner and much messier, in that 'moving furniture around' way.
