Messages to the wind..

I remember, in school, when the entire school went out with large, helium-filled balloons. Each one had a little card on its string, asking that whoever found the balloon fill out the card with the location and send it back to the school. We let them go in one big batch one morning, then had a bulletin board in the hallway that tracked the responses. Most were close by, but some went an astonishing distance, carried by the wind.

I wonder if schools still do that, sometimes. Could they, with today's environmental worries?

I would choose not to. I have seen the pictures of dead seabirds with stomachs full of bright coloured waste, and they make my gorge rise.
