"Fun" size..

A musing by Dork Tower

I recently noticed that the people selling ice cream have changed from 2 quart containers to 1 1/2 quart containers, cleverly designed to look the same size unless you're actually paying attention.

They didn't actually drop the price, though.

That would be much of the reason why I'm not eating as much ice cream as I used to. Even pouncing on sale prices, I feel like I'm getting ripped off.

"Fun" size is the size you give to children. Everything children have marketed to them must be fun; everything marketed to their parents must imply they'll be improved or have fun. I want some new marketing memes.

I noticed that too. But, not only in ice cream, there are chips, coffee, cookies, crackers. And, not only have the prices stayed the same but some have gone up.

Blue Bell has "Still a half gallon" printed on its cartons... while Blue Bunny points out that at 1.75 quarts, it contains "more scoops per package! Over 15% more than" the 1.5 quart containers.

It doesn't matter how many ounces are in the bag o' chips, the number of servings is always the same: one per bag.
