Ewwwww...
It's messy and cold and raining out. It'll be a fun (read: bad traffic and high winds) trip to the relatives' place tonight. I did manage to bake some Devonshire Splits, and the bread flour did make a difference. This time, they're lighter, more like store rolls. They also came out a dark brown, leading me to wonder if I used too much sugar in the dough. Probably, since I didn't measure very well.
Yesterday was tough, emotionally. I wasn't looking forward to Thanksgiving. Not even the book fair. Today, I'm feeling better. There's mandatory holiday fun at
anher's work, and then this evening we drive out. We have a friend watching the cats, one who's done it before.

That's a great turn of phrase. I know exactly what you mean and I try my hardest to avoid it.

He's in the Navy. It really is mandatory that he show up, at least long enough to be seen by his commanding officer. It is not mandatory that I show up, but I stand by my man.
The fun this time is a pot luck dinner. A 1st class came by his shop and said that everybody should bring something, and left a sign-up sheet. On the sign-up sheet was "green salad, potato salad, macaroni salad". The guys at his shop thought they were just suggestions. Later, the 1st class came back and chewed them out because that was the list they were supposed to choose from. (It seems the 1st class had gotten chewed out because the shop wasn't following the Plan from above.)
He picked 'green salad'. We're actually taking a chef salad, which is close enough to quell complaints.
