Posting from [livejournal.com profile] anher's computer. Computer parts have arrived. Now, I just wait for computer geek and other parts to arrive, and computer will be fixed. Yay!

We have made the evil cookies... using Hershey's Special Dark chocolate chips. These are a Special kind of evil cookie. They're as rich as brownies! I blame [livejournal.com profile] anher. It's all his fault.

I have abandoned the plan to make pecan pie in favor of apple crisp. (Less messy, plus I'm in the mood for apples.) This makes the Thanksgiving menu:

Turkey
Ham
Mashed Potatoes
Stuffing
Gravy
Devonshire Splits
Acorn Squash
Green Beans
Pumpkin Pie
Apple Crisp

I will make the pie crust tonight so I can make pies tomorrow. One less thing to worry about on game day. The splits are already baked as well as the ham, which just leaves turkey, squash, and crisp for the oven, and mashed potatoes and stuffing for the stovetop. Green beans will be microwaved.

The mad scientist chef in me be ordering around kitchen Igors all morning on Thursday. :)

EDIT - oh, yes.. I've picked up a cold, recently. No fever, no achy bones, so not the flu. I guess that means the flu shot is working. But I'm stuffy and snuffly and a little more tired. Don't worry, I've been washing my hands before cooking and baking.

It sounds like a full, delicious meal. What are splits?

Remember, you cannot take any medicine for the cold, but hot lemonade or hot gatorade really hits the spot and will sooth the throat. Don't overdo it with the meal. When you are tired, rest.

Love you.

I have been okayed to take Sudafed sparingly, so I have an emergency fallback if things get unbearable. I seem to be recovering right along, though. Today I sneezed a bit, but I wasn't drippy or stuffy at all.

Devonshire splits are a kind of dense yeast roll often eaten with tea. I got the recipe when we were in Britain. "Splits" is because you split them open to fill them with clotted cream.
