I made several attempts at a sestina, but I just couldn't get the leaven to rise. I hope that you enjoy your not-quite sonnet.

Luxuries

Bread is sweet when drizzled with honey
And sandalwood incense lends to the air
A delicious savor, perfumed with comfort.
Delightfully soft is the fur of a coney,
Like so many luxuries that I could wear.
Water over skin is a silken shirt.
I could bathe in warmth all day when it's sunny,
Drink honeysuckle and lavender from the air
Like wine, and thunderstorms for dessert.
Not all indulgences are purchased with money.
Some, like regret, are paid for with care
Diligently given to loss and hurt.
What price would you pay, what ransom give?
Your day to the past, or to the present, and live?
