Signs of spring
Daffodils are heralds of spring. Omens of spring. Portents of spring. They show up before spring is really properly here. I see them, and I know spring is on the way.
Dogwood blooms and robins are emblems of spring. Trademarks of spring. I see them, and I know spring is here. Same goes for mushrooms.
They're all signs of spring. But there are two different kinds.
