From my experience, a lot of places get a lot of apps that just sit in a pile on the busy boss's desk. One phone call to check and politely ask if they've had a chance to look will get your app right on top of the list, and possibly even a phone chat to make a good impression.
And yes, shared printers are awesome. I have my file server (also web server, etc.) on a separate machine, but networked to the main one on a 100 Mb/sec LAN. It's like I have an extra 250 Gb hard drive in my computer.. plus all the other goodies that come from having a Linux machine.
